The basics you must know in order to look sharp at your formal.
There’s a lot you need to think and worry about in high school: your studies, your grades, sports and, of course, girls. But what comes with the latter usually involves your school formal, so it’s time to start thinking about what you’ll wear for the big day.
When dressing for your formal, it’s important to know that it’s not really about you, but more about your date. She’ll be the one spending hours out shopping to find something to wear and when she finds the perfect dress, it’s your job to find something to complement it so that you can both look amazing on the big night.
Here are some FAQs when it comes to formal season:
1. Should I wear a suit or a tuxedo?
Many don’t know that there is a difference between a suit and tuxedo. A tuxedo jacket and trousers will feature satin on same area of the garment. On a tuxedo, there’s satin on the pocket trim, lapels, buttons and alongside the leg of the trousers. A suit doesn’t feature any satin on any of these areas.A tuxedo may also come with a rounded shawl lapel, which is not generally offered on a classic suit jacket. With the combination of a rounded shawl lapel and satin features, a tuxedo is considered to be much dressier than a suit.
A tuxedo is also considered the best option for special events, such as a formal occasions, whereas you can wear a suit anywhere. Opt for a tux if you want to make it super special!
2. Do I have to match my date when it comes to my accessories?
Remember, at your formal, selfies and other photos will be running hot. If you want to look cool and sharp in your formal photos, you’ll definitely want to step it up and wear something to compliment your what ever your dates wearing.
But the real question here is if you should match your accessories or the rest of your outfit to what she is wearing?????
That choice is totally up to you. If you want to match your date’s dress, go with accessories that match her colour as best as possible. This can be via a vest, bow tie or tie!
Our advise is dont try and match your dates dress with the same colour suit or tuxedo. You'll look ridiculous trying to wear a coloured suit thats suppose to mimic her dress. Just don't do it.
3. Should I wear a bow tie or tie?
You can wear either, it just depends on what you like more. Long ties are cool and always formal favorites, and bow ties which are now common place, even at none formal events show you know and understand fashion and style at your formal.
